No-Cost Limited Ultrasounds

A positive pregnancy test alone doesn’t provide all the information needed to confirm your pregnancy. Only an ultrasound can give crucial details to help you during the decision-making process.

A Choice to Make Pregnancy Resource Center offers limited ultrasounds if you are medically eligible. We’ll explain the benefits of an ultrasound and why it’s necessary.

Why An Ultrasound Matters

An ultrasound offers a look into your pregnancy’s health and development, alerting you to certain potential complications requiring medical attention.

This scan uses sound waves that bounce off internal structures in your body, including your pregnancy and reproductive organs. These sound waves transform into images that can be viewed on a screen.

Very early in pregnancy, you would have a transvaginal ultrasound. This involves a small, wand-like device called a transducer inserted gently into your vagina to allow for the clearest images.

Later in pregnancy, an abdominal ultrasound would be performed. The transducer is guided over your belly after the sonographer applies gel to the surface.

Only an ultrasound provides these essential details about your pregnancy:

Viability

Is your pregnancy progressing, and is there a detectable heartbeat? As many as 26% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage, and monitoring or medical care may be needed to safeguard your health.

Gestational Age

How far along are you? Knowing this detail is critical to understanding your pregnancy options. For example, abortion in South Carolina is not permitted after a fetal heartbeat can be detected, usually around 6 weeks of pregnancy.

What’s more, if you are considering seeking an abortion out of state, you should still confirm this information. Medical abortion, for example, is FDA-approved through 10 weeks of gestation. Taking abortion drugs after this time isn’t recommended, as it can have serious implications for your health.

Location

Pregnancies should develop in the uterus, but some women experience an ectopic pregnancy. With this condition, the fertilized egg implants in another location, like a fallopian tube or the cervix.

Ectopic pregnancies are extremely dangerous and can cause life-threatening complications if left untreated. An ultrasound will alert you to this condition and allow you to receive immediate medical treatment.

Before A Pregnancy Decision

Your health and well-being are important to us, and we’re here to help you find answers.

A Choice to Make Pregnancy Resource Center offers limited ultrasounds if you’ve received a positive pregnancy test result with us and are medically eligible. We do not perform this scan if you are actively bleeding.

Our staff will perform an abdominal ultrasound first, but if we cannot view the pregnancy, we’ll conduct a transvaginal ultrasound. Scans are conducted beginning at 5 weeks and 5 days of gestation.

You’ll gather the details needed to protect your health and create a roadmap for the decision-making process.

Getting answers is easier than you may think. We’re here to help.
